First 2008 ‘Boro Baby Born Late Tuesday Night!

Murfreesboro’s first baby born in this New Year did not arrive like clockwork as did 2008.  WGNS News checked throughout the day with officials at Baptist Women’s Pavillion in Middle Tennessee Medical Center.  The early morning and mid-day calls had no expectant mothers in the delivery area.  Then when we checked with the local hospital around 7:30 Tuesday evening, we were told that there we some possible deliveries shaping-up.  Obviously, the cold winter night had some newborns choosing the warmth of the womb instead of the 12-degree wind chill reading that night.  One friendly nurse chuckled and commented there are some things that are best not to rush.  Then at 10:36 Tuesday night (1/1/08) Hunter Austin decided to step into the spotlight and become Murfreesboro’s first baby of the New Year.  When we talked with his mother Kaliesha Higgs, she said, “I’m glad he was healthy, since he was born early.”  Again, Hunter Austin is Murfreesboro’s first baby born in this New Year.  And Hunter, welcome to the Heart of Tennessee.  WGNS looks forward to reporting your successes in years to come.

Note:  An earlier call to StoneCrest Medical Center in Smyrna was answered by a friendly nurse who noted there was no baby yet.  She encouraged WGNS to call back.  At the noon hour, we were told by another representative that this type of information is not available to the public.  WGNS News was then switched to an extension with endless rings and no answer.  After 20-rings we hung-up, figuring StoneCrest did not want to be a part of Good News For The New Year.

My son was born at MTMC last July. Their staff made the happiest event in my husband and my life even better. My mom was there for a hip replacement two-years ago and had the same experience. We are fortunate to have a faith-based hospital.

This OB/GYN must be from out of town. The local doc’s don’t mess up their personal schedules. My son was born here 8-years ago, and I my labour was artificially induced so the doctor could go to a party. After talking with other moms, many had similar experiences!

I know Kaliesha. What wonderful news, a healthy baby boy and the first born here in 2008. The name Hunter just sounds like success! Best wishes.
