Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney has endorsed Republican presidential frontrunner John McCain, but could the two
ex-rivals ever put aside their differences and form a united GOP ticket in November. At least one political scientist doesn’t think so. Dr. Robb McDaniel of MTSU says Republicans are disappointed with Romney’s unsuccessful showing, despite the advantages of personal funding, powerful support and good looks.

McDaniel says Romney’s flip-flops on major issues would make him unpalatable to the Reagan Democrats and independents who regard McCain as a “maverick.” However, McDaniel notes that McCain certainly could use the financial backing Romney still has at his disposal.
