T
he official groundbreaking for the road widening project on Halls Hill Pike was held on Friday in Rutherford County. Highway Department engineer Eric Hill stated…
County Mayor Ernest Burgess commented….
Over the past several years, a total of 12-people have lost their lives on Halls Hill Pike in the area of Daniel McKee School. Murfreesboro Mayor Tommy Bragg told WGNS that Halls Hill Pike, a
state road, never got the needed improvements over the years.
Catharine McCrosky (pic: left) has kept this project on Rutherford County’s front burner. As president of the Shiloh Community Club, she became the squeaky wheel that moved the road improvements to the stage where they are now. McCrosky told us that many young people have lost their life on Halls Hill Pike while walking to the playground and basketball court at Daniel McKee School. There is no shoulder to the road or sidewalk which has led to twelve deaths in this short span of roadway.
Former educator Annie Rucker Zackery (pic: Mayor Burgess, Mrs. Zackery, Bryan Barrett) said she was sorry the project was starting after lives were lost.
The widening of Halls Hill Pike will take approximately 2-years to complete.

AWESOME! AWESOME! I have traveled that route for years to visit with friends and for years that road has been a death trap. I remember in high school, we used to see how much speed we could build up between Daniel McKee and Guy James Rd. There was a hill we liked to try to make our cars jump on. We were young and stupid – and apparently someone was watching over us because no one got hurt. 12-others were not so lucky.

Jaded…does being a “young and stupid” teenager mean the same thing as “all teenagers are jerks”? Just curious.

I was not a jerk when I was a teenager….stupid, yes……was never a jerk….was with my buncle and his boss one time possum hunting when I was 16…my uncles boss was hogging all the possums and bragging about what a good hunter he was….was a prime oportunity to be a jerk but I was not….I took a leak in the gas tank of his dodge pick up…but he deserved it

Who said anything about jerks?

Maybe , just maybe, alot of those killed on the Halls Hill Pike, by being hit by cars or trucks is because they think they own the road. There is no shoulder but there are yards! Live out there all my life, 40 plus years, and have seen people walk down the road just for the fun of it, stopping traffic in one direction because you cant see over the hill. 6 where killed in one wreak because about 20 or so kids left a party at midnight and a car coming toward them could not figure out how to get pass them. DRUNK.

Jaded…Refer back to the article (“Area Deputy beaten in Rutherford Co /Apr 11″):
Your exact comment was “Teenagers are bunch of jerks…all of them”! Must have slipped your mind?
