Did you realize that April 27th through May 3rd is National Volunteer Week? Heart of Tennessee Red Cross CEO Greg King knows first hand what a difference those who give their time and talents make. King said, “Without volunteers, the American Red Cross could not complete its mission to provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.” At the Heart of Tennessee Chapter, more than 156 volunteers help people affected by domestic and international disasters, support blood drives, teach lifesaving skills and serve members of the military and their families. Recently nearly 50 volunteers helped raise vital funds for the 2008 “Join the Red Cross Campaign.” King commented, “The Heart of Tennessee Chapter welcomes volunteers of all ages and skills. Right now we especially need people who are interested in becoming part of our Disaster Action Team to help local disaster victims to get emergency food, clothing and shelter.” He noted that to volunteer, contact Kiel Hargrove at the local Red Cross (615-893-4272 extension 107).
