Failure to wear a seatbelt has led to the arrest of a Murfreesboro man for his seventeenth driving on a revoked license charge. State Trooper Donnie Clark was working on Jim Cummings Highway in Cannon County when he noticed the vehicle of J.W. Bass, Jr. age 51 of Bradyville Pike in Murfreesboro. Trooper Clark pulled Bass’ vehicle over because he was not wearing his seatbelt. Upon approaching the vehicle, Clark noticed a strong smell of alcohol. After administering a field sobriety test, Clark determined that Bass was intoxicated. When Clark took Bass into custody, a records check indicated that this was Bass’ third DUI and seventeenth driving on a revoked license charge. Records indicate that Bass was declared a habitual motor vehicle offender in Murfreesboro.
Bass is currently charged with driving while being a habitual traffic offender, driving under the influence 3rd offense, violation of the implied consent law, for refusing to take a blood alcohol test, and not wearing his seatbelt. He is currently free on $15,000.00 bond and will appear before General Sessions Judge Susan Melton on May 20th.
Driving while being a habitual traffic offender is a felony that carries mandatory jail time.
