Barfield Elementary School Principal named PRINCIPAL of the YEAR

The Area 10 Principal Study Council has named Barfield Elementary’s Judy Goodwin (pictured) Principal of the Year. The award is sponsored by the Tennessee Department of Education. By being selected, Goodwin now enters the competition for the state level image Principal of the Year award.

Principal Goodwin said, “I told the entire staff and the student body that they do their job so well that it makes me look good. All the recognition is due to a team effort and that includes the community too. You can’t take one piece out and have the same product.”

Goodwin has been an educator for 36 years and began her first administration assignment in 1996. For the past eight years, she has been the principal of Barfield Elementary School.

What is the Area 10 Principal Study: The Area 10 Principal Study Council represents Rutherford, Williamson, Wilson and Davidson counties. Each group in the state will select a Principal of the Year from their areas. In all, 18 principals from across Tennessee will compete for the state title over the next several months.

This is CRAZY. I didn’t get to vote.

    What? She is GREAT!

Rick, I am slow on my response to you as I was sure everyone would agree with me. She may have you fooled, but not me. I’m not sure how she even earned the position she has. As the expression goes, she isn’t the brightest color in the crayon box. Have you ever talked to her? She talks to adults like their kids and expect kids to be adults. As far as my experience goes with her I am convinced she has no idea what she is doing. I am going to assume you have a child who has attended or does attend Barfield, if not, then I understand your view of her. If you do have a child that attends I hope for the sake of your child that you continue to have the attitude you have. You obviously haven’t experienced what I have or what my child had to endure. I have since switched schools and as I expected my child has soared and continues to excel - socially and academically. This woman puts labels on children and told me my child had ADD, last time I checked she wasn’t a doctor, but maybe this is what she tells many parents and instead of learning other ways to teach and guide children, she medicates them. She couldn’t have been more wrong. My child didn’t need anything other than a different school with a different principal. That was the only medication needed. Ms. Goodwin has ADD, depression, and any other kind of crazy diagnosis out there as far as I am concerned. Good luck to your Rick, obviously, you aren’t the only one she has fooled. I know I didn’t get to vote b/c I would have never voted her for this award. She is deserves an award of the opposite kind.
