Bible Park USA meeting held Wednesday night
The proposed Bible Park USA was discussed on Wednesday evening in the Rutherford County Courthouse by Commissioners. Some residents are speaking against the park…
Others say they are FOR the proposed theme park.
Others, question how the park will be paid for and the developer himself.
County commissioners discussed the use of TIF (or tax increment financing) during Wednesday’s meeting. TIF financing is used to develop an area when the city or county surrounding the development will see a direct benefit through increased tax dollars. The TIF plan for the Bible Park USA would utilize several million dollars. In the large scheme of things, several million dollars is a small number when compared to the overall construction costs OF $200-MILLION. Some fear the TIF plan includes their tax dollars that are generated when paying sales tax in area stores, that is not the case. The only tax dollars used to help pay for the park would be those generated within the park. In other words, if you pay for a ticket to visit the park, your helping to pay for the park construction.
Safe Harbor Holding’s, LLC is the company behind the proposal. There most recent project includes a $400-million dollar Hard Rock Park in South Carolina.
On May 15th, the county will vote to approve or disapprove a rezoning request in the Blackman Community that could ultimately kill the plan all together.
So far, the park is not a definite.
