Weekend Fire Under S. Church Bridge

Around 8:30 Saturday morning Murfreesboro Police discovered heavy smoke billowing from under the South Church Street overpass that crosses the CSX railroad track.  They attempted to determine the source, but the smoke was so thick they could not get under the bridge.  Within minutes the Murfreesboro Fire Department was on-the-scene.  Units on the bridge and those on a service road (right of bridge in above photo)  extinguished the grass and debris fire within minutes.  It has been determined that the blaze was started by homeless persons trying to stay warm while camping under the bridge.
