New schools and new money to pay for the facilities is needed in Rutherford County. Reports indicate that 3-new schools are on the drawing board. In order to pay for the growth, county leaders are eying a property tax increase of over one dollar per every $100 dollars of the assessed value of your home. Currently, the property tax rate stands at $2.44 but could go as high as $3.47 in the future. With such an increase, a home that is valued at $150-thousand dollars would see an annual property tax increase of about $390-dollars.
The three schools the county is in need of include another high school and two middle schools. The cost of the three schools would be over $100-million dollars. The school system of Rutherford County will also be faced with the cost of staffing the schools after they are built.
The potential new schools will be further discussed on June 5th.

Could have easily funded these projects with Bible Park taxes and not called on the citizens of Rutherford Co. to go to their wallet!!!! To every action there is a reaction…you got yours. I hope none of these schools are proposed for the Blackman area…all that extra traffic and such. I realize all those trees are in the way and you just can’t see the forest.
